Until recently, the iPhone maker had been updating iOS 15 alongside iOS 16 for users of all phones, but from December when iOS 15.7.2 came out, this was no longer the case. There really is only one reason to choose iOS 15.7.3 over iOS 16.3: if you have a device that won’t run Apple’s latest operating system. The upgrade is available for the iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later. But that’s not all-iOS 16.3 patches some major iPhone security holes, including three in WebKit, the engine that underpins the Safari browser, and another three in the Kernel at the heart of your iPhone.Īt the same time, iOS 16.3 fixes several bugs and doesn’t appear to have added any major new ones, making it a good idea to update to the latest iOS version as soon as you can, if your iPhone can run it.
